Dr. Nick Marini's Tips to Beat Allergies

'Tis the season…the season where we walk outside to enjoy the warming weather only for some of us to be smacked in the face with seasonal allergies. Not only can this be extremely uncomfortable, but it can also make you more prone to viral infections. So, here are my 6 tips to reduce your allergy symptoms. All recommended products may be found in our Fullscipt dispensary.

  1. Get adjusted! We have observed with many patients that allergies may improve from being adjusted. In addition to removing nerve interference in the spine, we perform a gentle technique that stimulates points over the sinuses (which often brings immediate relief).

  2. Every day, you should flush the sinuses. This can be with a nasal rinse (using a special water bottle with an added powder) or sprays. We use and recommend the spray or rinse bottle & solution packet from “Xlear,” which can help immensely. Just make sure to use distilled water if you’re using the Xlear nasal rinse bottle!

  3. Probiotics! Improper gut bacteria not only affect digestion but hamper proper immune responses, which is what allergies are! Daily probiotic regiments will help restore proper bacterial balance.

  4. If you’re a honey fan, you’ll like this one. 1-2 tablespoons of LOCAL honey a day can help introduce the local allergens to your gut, and with those good bacteria, can help get your immune system accustomed to the allergens. (NOT APPROPRIATE FOR KIDS UNDER 2!)

  5. Consider allergen supplements that contain the proper minerals and antioxidants that your immune system requires. We recommend a formulation called HistaEze from Designs for Health, which has a great benefit in reducing allergy issues (Dr. Rosenthal personally has had incredible success with this supplement). Please check to be sure that there are no interactions with any medications you may be taking.

  6. Consistent exposure to the allergens is a good thing. Kind of like slowly desensitizing yourself to something you fear, the same thing is true for your immune system. A little bit each day can help reduce your overall response over time.
